The stone

Padparadscha takes its name from the Sinhalese padma raga — the colour of the lotus blossom at sunrise. To qualify, a sapphire must hold pink and orange simultaneously, in balance, in a single stone.

Fewer than one in ten thousand Ceylon sapphires meet that definition, and laboratories disagree often enough that a GRS padparadscha call carries real weight. This 3.05 carat cushion is unheated and holds the blend evenly under both daylight and incandescent light.

It is the rarest colour of sapphire in the world, and Sri Lanka remains its classical source.
